Caffeinated Randomness - New House, Old Friends

Photobucket

This week I've been pretty exhausted.  Moving has finally caught up with me.  I don't know where all that extra energy went, but when I find it again....  Or it could be because we finally have cable and I'm just being lazy in front of the tv.  I"m going to blame the move for tiring me out.

I have been enjoying getting to know my new house.  Getting used to new routines.  I have also been getting reacquiainted with old friends and places.  Not many of you may be aware but my family moved back to where we used to live before moving out to the prairies.  We lived and have returned to the foothills of the Rockies in the start of prairie country.  A friend of mine recently asked if I was going to change the blog name to Lost in the Foothills.  I actually contemplated it for a second and then replied "No.  I'm in the start of the prairies."

I've already taken advantage of the local library.  Oh how I have missed having a library with a large collection of books at my disposal.  Books that I don't have to wait for through interlibrary loans systems.  I've spent a lot of time lately reading.  The Princess is enjoying the library as well as they have a summer reading program every other day for her age group.  She has been enjoying getting out and meeting children her own age from our community. While she is there, the boys and I have been walking around main street of our new/old town - discovering new businesses (found a cute little coffee shop that had organic coffee and cookies) and old businesses (the dollar store and toy library).

I'm getting used to having a Walmart and grocery stores just minutes away from my home, rather than a 30 minute drive away.  It's great to be able to run and get things in the evening without being way from home for 2 hours or going during the day and dragging everyone with me.  The other evening I wondered through Walmart just enjoying the peace and looking around without stressing about little hands.

Today, I caught up with a friend that I haven't seen in 4 years.  Believe it or not, she too moved away from the community only to move back a few months before we did.  Both of our daughters are months apart and have been lamenting leaving their friends.  Neither girl remembered the other.  Today, they played and played and played.  They played here at our house and then went to my friends house and played for 4 more hours.  They are already planning many more play dates together.  My girlfriend and I laughed and were glad as we both were concerned about how our moves would affect them.  As well, my friend's older son was recently diagnosed with Asberger's.  We are both playing catch up on how to deal with this "autism" thing.

I also have to tell you about a few of our new friends.  It appears that we are the local hang out for the squirrel population.  It may be because we back on to a park, but probably because we have filled our bird feeders with seeds.  I regularly see at least 5 each morning either in my backyard or in the back park.  The kids enjoy watching them.  They keep trying to go outside when our "friends" are in the backyard, but they end up just scaring them off.  I think we may have to get some peanuts for our new friends if they decide to continue to hang out at our place.

Come link up with the randomness this week and share your friendly neighbourhood stories.

Caffeinated Randomness - Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes

 Photobucket

I want to first apologize to all of you.  Last week you all lovingly linked up your randomness.  I had plans on reading the blogs during the weekend and comment on each of them.  Sadly I didn't.  When I finally found the time, linky was being upgraded.  So I did not get a chance to read your blogs.  However, thank you all for linking up faithfully.  It is a joy to see all your smiling faces each week and to read your words.  Many times they are a blessing to me more than you know.

I'm sitting here writing this and listening to David Bowie's Changes.  I think this will be my theme song for the next few months.  Cindy at She Sparkles wrote about her theme song, so I'm claiming this as my song.

I love the lines :   Turn and face the strange // Just gonna have to be a different man.  They apply to my life.  Last year at this time if you had told me that my son was autistic, I would have fought you on it.  If you had told me that I would be making appointments with autism services to get him assistance, I would have told you you were crazy.  If you had told me that my little guy was anything less than perfect, then I would have taken you out back and well all you momma bears know what I'm talking about.  But these are things that I have had to realize and had to process these last few months.  It's a lot to take.  The little boy that I had so many dreams and plans for is not the little man that I  have.  Not that I don't have dreams and plans for him, just new plans.  I have had to look at things differently than I did a year ago.

There have been many glimpses of hope these last two months as well as glimpses of defeat.  We have an assessment date which I have embraced and rejoiced for.  Answers to questions are coming.  I know there will be many more questions, but there will be direction for them.  We've also begun to start the battles.  Which organization will be assisting us.  Yes, we can decide that our son isn't ready for kindergarten.  As I said, it's the beginning of the battle.

We know what we want for our son and we're willing to fight for it.  The middleman deserves everything possible.  He deserves the best that we can get him.  In that, our family is making a huge life decision.  We have decided to move back to where we moved from.  The province we originally came from has some of the best funding for autism.  The city we are looking at has so many services and support groups compared to one in the city we are living by.

This is a hard decision.  It is not one we have taken lightly.  We have made many dear friends in our little town.  I will miss my Babes who have lifted me up in prayer, strength and faith when I needed it and while I still need it.  I will miss my little town who has given me such peace.  We are also separating Nic from her friends that she has grown up with for the last 4 years.  This decision has been hard.  But I know it's the decision that we have had to make and that God has lead us to.  There have been too many coincidences and I don't believe in coincidences.  I believe they are things that God shows us where He wants to lead us.

God has been working within me these last few years.  Teaching me to rely on His strength alone through difficulties and trials.  Guiding me along paths that I did not want to go, but knew I had to take.  Leading me to where He needed me to be.  He has been changing me these last 4 years and I am a different (wo)man.

I know it has been a while since I have "blogged" or as my husband would say "whined." We have finally sold our home (isn't it nice) and are moving to Saskatchewan in a few weeks.

I'm nervous and excited, sad and happy, all at the same time. I am a true Gemini. We do not have a house to move into yet. My dh is looking for one this week. I hope that we can get a good deal on a house. If not we will be living in a "van down by the river." Who knew when that saying became popular that minivans would be almost like home anyway (built in a/c, dvd, surround sound, etc...)

I have a tonne of work to do to get ready for the move. I don't know where to start. I need boxes, cleaners and cheap labour. My friends are ready to lend a hand, however, my dh asked me when did they become our slaves.

Oh well, everything will turn out.......at least that's what everyone is telling me!

I'm a 39 year old (oh yeah I'm telling you my age) Stay at Home mom. A former Bad Girl now reformed sinner, I'm married to my Y2K guy and raising 3 great children from God. Proudly Canadian, however, missing the West Coast, I currently live in the prairies watching the farmers fields produce as I learn how God produces the fruits in me.
