Caffeinated Randomness - Books & Blogs

This week I've been a little lazy. In fact, I've put off a lot of things - cleaning, laundry, homelitics...all for a book.

It all started with Twilight - New Moon. I watched the movie a few nights while feeding the baby (there really isn't anything on here at 11 pm unless you enjoy Real Housewives of some wealthy community that I really don't care about). I realized that I hadn't read the book in a while. So, I picked it up the next day and become engrossed. It didn't help that I had nothing else to read and desperately needed to go to the library.

I have read this book a few times now since first purchasing it 17 months ago. The series has become my "comfort books." Comfort books are the books that I turn to when I'm bored, tired, depressed (They are also the ones that I keep on my already overstocked book shelf). I've already read it, so I feel its ok if I skim parts of it. However, once in, then I have to keep reading. After 5 days, I have again finished the series. Luckily, I've some new reading material from the library.

I love to read and am always looking for new books. I joined a book club at our local library, unfortunately I've only enjoyed 3 of the books we've read. Not that book clubs are supposed to be about books you enjoy. They are supposed to push you and make you think. However, a lot of the books we have read are purely FLUFF! There I said it. The other thing about my book club is that we have only met regarding 4 books out of I believe 12. What's the point of a book club that doesn't meet.

Andrea had a book club on her blog late last year. She canceled it immediately after my first involvement as there was very little interest (I don't know if it was purely coincidental or not. Luckily I'm shopping with her today so maybe she'll fess up). I was pumped about it at the time and after reading our one book, became very sad about it's failing.

This week I've had an epiphany (ok, one of many this week, but more about that on a later date). I've decided that I want to start a book club. Are you in? I think that because you, like me, probably have a tonne of books in your night stand that you purchased 3 years ago and haven't read, that we should do titles that aren't recent. That way, you don't have to run out and buy it or if you have to get it through the library there won't be 455 holds on the book. I also think that we should do non-fiction and fiction.

Now many of us are on Blog Frog. I'll admit that I'm still figuring it out and not as regular on it as I could be. So the idea goes even further. We could use the discussion post on Lost's..Blog Frog Community to discuss the book on a certain date and time. That way we would all be discussing it in real time.

Are you interested? I'm excited to hear what every one thinks or if anyone thinks this is a great idea. I'll even proceed if there's only two of us. I'd say one, but then people might talk and send me away......

I look forward to hearing from you all. I'm pumped! Are you? Now go and see what our Caffeinated Chieftain is up to today.

There is no doubt that you've been to my house! I have two stacks of books on my desk and two tote bags full under my desk. These are my "I'll thumb through them when I'm dealing with an issue" piles. I'll show you whats on my desk.. The Battle Belongs to the Lord (Joyce Meyer), The Excellent Wife (Martha Peace), Everyone Communicates Few Connect (John Maxwell), Too Busy Not to Pray (Bill Hybels), So Long Insecurity (Beth Moore), the Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling and One in a Million (Priscilla Shirer).
So.....when do you wanna start? I'm sure that I already have something on my shelves that you're willing to start with. LOL

This was a fun post today!!

Um, hello? You had me at book club! I would love to join you, and I think hosting the discussion at BlogFrog is genius.

Sounds like fun to me. You are SO lucky you get to go shopping with Andrea today and she is so lucky she gets to go shopping with you! I don't live near ANY bloggers. Sniff sniff.

Oh I would love to have the time to sit and become engrossed in a novel. Summer is not the best for me. I hope you enjoy your bookie friends :)

I love these ambitious bloggers. I am currently prepping a Sunday School class, prepping a youth girls class, and prepping a women's bible study. I hear book club and I think, absolutely I will. What is wrong with me?

I will pray on this. I can't wait to see it unfold! Blog Frog is an excellent idea, btw.

I haven't been able to read as much since I had my baby in January. I really miss being engrossed in a book and not having any duties calling - it will come again in another season of my life though :)

I have comfort books too! Sigh. Now i want to go look at my shelves and get one. I love books. I got a book in the mail yesterday and when I opened it that lovely new book smell wafted toward me. So I fanned the pages and sniffed. Yes I am a dorky book lover.

:o)
I might be interested in the book club and blogfrog is a fab idea!

I'm the same as you with the Twilight series, Eclipse being my favorite. I found a new series a few months back that I'm just as into, although it is much heavier reading - the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I've read a lot of quick reads in between though like Eat Pray Love and the Guernsey Literary... Great reads as well. Oh, my other go to books are Anne of Green Gables and Pride and Prejudice.

Depends on the book you choose...I may be interested. I wish I could say I read to improve myself - i.e...Christian devotionals/self-help books. However, the truth is that I prefer reading for pure pleasure and a few quick moments of escape! I like well-written fiction (which is often secular, like Elizabeth Berg, Jodi Picoult, the Shopaholic books, etc.) and books on gardening. My life can be stressful, and reading has always been a great vice.

I'm an absolutely obsessive reader - I could definitely be labeled as an addict. I read constantly and would LOVE to do a book club - I'm also just figuring out Blog Frog but could see myself participating because I'm always looking for good reads! I am posting a summer reading list this week on my blog (likely on Thursday).

Great idea, Michelle!

A book club sounds like so much fun! I wish I had more time to join. I am slowly working through a pile of books I have right now. I really need to make more time to read... I should be reading now I guess!! :)
