Messy Mondays - Lean on.....???

Messy Mondays where I share what God has been showing me through the messiness of life. It is my personal belief that this walk isn't clean and crisp and straight or narrow. It's wide and twisted and mucky and messy. It's about the ups and the downs, but through it all God is there with us.
I'm not writing this to "toot" my own horn, but if you need something and I can give it to you or can assist you in anyway, I will. It's in my nature. I'm a fixer/helper. Recently this year I was asked to make a meal for a friend's aunt who is dying of cancer. I gave her 6. Not that I was looking for an award, but I had extra meals already prepared and knew they would be needed.
My problem is the fact that I don't know how to ask for help. I will take on so much and don't know when to say no. If I see something that needs to be done, I will do it. I am reminded of the song Lean on Me. The chorus says:

My problem is the fact that I don't know how to ask for help. I will take on so much and don't know when to say no. If I see something that needs to be done, I will do it. I am reminded of the song Lean on Me. The chorus says:
Lean on Me, When you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on.
That time is now! I have been struggling. I have been under a fog of cloud and dealing with trials that are no one's fault, they are just the cards dealt to us. I need to "swallow my pride" and let people know exactly what I need. I need to accept that I am not superwoman, but that I'm imperfect just like the rest of us. I need to acknowledge that no everything is not fine, but that everything will be fine. I have trusted God and asked for His help and guidance. But don't allow my friends and church family to assist me, as they have allowed me to assist them.
The problem, I'm not sure what I need. An hour alone. A meal. Laundry being done (ok, that might just be a little selfish). I'm not sure how to let go. There's a humbling of oneself to realize you need to become dependent and let go of your independence. Funny enough this is something that I speak to my evil twin about. She has had to do this as her sight has faded. There is that surrender. That we can't do it alone. That we do need to lean on others.
We are part of a body. We are not the foundation, that spot has already been taken by Jesus. We are but the parts. We cannot excist alone. We are all a part of a community. We were created to be in relationship - with Him and with each other. When we don't accept help, we essentially are saying that we don't need that relationship. We are saying that we are in control, which is a lie. We are not in control of anything. God is. It's when we think we are in control that we feel like we are losing control.
We need to rely on each other. We need to realize that we are not alone. We need to surrender and embrace the dependance. Just as I need to rely on my friends the way I let them "lean on me."

Caffeinated Randomness - Just Say No to Remakes

Remakes or Redos. You know them. How many times do we have to see a remake of Superman or Spiderman or the Incredible Hulk? My husband personally wants to know the answer to this in regards to Pride and Prejudice (eventhough the BBC miniseries with Colin Firth is the best in my opinion). How many different versions of CSI or Law and Order or NCIS do we really need? Then you have the copy cat shows that originated in England and are remade in the states - The Office, Antique Roadshow, the X Factor. Does no one have an original thought in their body or is imagination dead?
If you watch classic movies you know what I mean. Have you seen the original version of The Women? It is a classic and an amazing movie. There are no men in it. EVER!!!! They are mentioned or alluded to. It is about lies and affairs and how women interact with each other. It is an amazing movie and one of my favourites to watch on TMC. I was excited to see the new version with Meg Ryan and Debra Messing. I finally caught it on W network and had to shut it off. It was bad and didn't have the intent of the orginal. I should have known. If I ever hear of Gone with the Wind being remade, I think I will start an Occupy Hollywood for the grievous remakes they have made.
I also have a problem with this when tv shows from 20 years ago are made into movies. 21 Jump Street comes to mind. No I will admit I have not seen the movie. I lived the tv show. I watched it from the pilot to completion. I know about Johnny Depp and then Richard Greico. I personally favoured Peter Deluise. I was in a group talking about the movie and said I couldn't watch the movie because of the tv show. One of the women didn't know it was a tv show. She didn't even know that Johnny Depp was in it. WHAT are you kidding me? Again another sign I'm getting older.
It's the same with music. With very few exceptions do I like the remake rather than the original (Whitny's version of "I will always love you" is much better than Dolly's). I know imitation is a form of flattery and I know many symphonies play Beetoven or Mozart. However, when all you hear on the radio is some redo or remix of a song made popular 20 years ago and the younger generation doesn't know what you mean or even know the original, that's when I have a problem.
My daughter is learning this. The song "Blackbird" by the Beatles is one of her favourite songs. However, she has only heard the version by the King Singers. Today she heard Sarah Maclachlan's version for "I am Sam". She sang along but at the end said the King Singers version was better. I wonder what she would think of the original. I'll have to play it for her tomorrow.
Which version do you think is better?
What do you think of remakes? What is a movie you think would be a travesty to remake? What movie or tv show would you watch if it was remade? Come link up with the randomness this week.

Caffeinated Randomness - 38 and Still Kicking

One month ago today I was floating around a pool. I was in charge of a cabana for a short time. I didn't have a care in the world. Why because it was my birthday and we were on holiday without any of the kids. I have to say so far my 38th birthday was my favourite. No one screamed at me. I didn't have to do any laundry or cook dinner (I made Leroy clean up from lunch without any guilt). It was a great day.
Now you may wonder why I didn't change my age on my profile until now. Not that I was trying to deceive you. I just forgot. It wasn't a top priority thing to do. I actually don't have a problem turning 38. I have more of a problem with getting grey than with getting older. When I turned 30 I had a good cry, not because I had totally wasted my 20s. I cried because Friends ended the week before. What would I watch every Thursday night? Thank you Grey's Anatomy for correcting this problem.
There is one thing I haven't gotten used to as I have gotten older. When I was younger I was always the youngest person in the office or among my friends. I now find myself becoming the oldest. I actually got excited when I was the youngest person at a lunch put on my the senior ladies study at my church (I told them I was going to crash more of their luncheons if they made that good of food each time). Not everyone I talk to gets my humourful references. I referenced Fat Albert yesterday and only one of the girls got it. I am one of the oldest moms in the hall when picking up the kids from school. I used to think maybe I had my kids late in life (I was 29 when Nicole was born), but I've come to the conclusion that everyone else rushed having kids too early in theirs. I will be in my mid 50s when Sam turns 20 and at the perfect age to enjoy traveling and keeping up with the grand kids. I won't be in my 40s and be a grandmother (hopefully I didn't just tempt fate).
I'm looking forward to turning 40. I spent my 20s doing nothing. My 30s having and raising my kids. My 40s are exciting possibilities. I could travel more, write a book, take up a new hobby, etc. God has great plans for my 40s and I can't wait to see what is in store.

What did you do for your birthday? What does your favourite birthday look like? What are you looking forward to this year?
Come and link up your randomness today.
