Music Monday - Down to the River to Pray

Every week, I get the privilege to share with you the music that moves me. Often the music that I choose has a story or a message that God has given me. However, this week I'm posting this song just because I like it.

I had never heard this song until I saw O Brother Where Art Thou. It was an amazing scene where the congregation go literally "down to the river" for baptism. This version is by the King Singers. I really enjoy listening to them.

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the starry crown
Good Lord, show me the way !

O sisters let's go down,
Let's go down, come on down,
O sisters let's go down,
Down in the river to pray.

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the robe and crown
Good Lord, show me the way !

O brothers let's go down,
Let's go down, come on down,
Come on brothers let's go down,
Down in the river to pray.

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the starry crown
Good Lord, show me the way !

O fathers let's go down,
Let's go down, come on down,
O fathers let's go down,
Down in the river to pray.

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the robe and crown
Good Lord, show me the way !

O mothers let's go down,
Let's go down, don't you want to go down,
Come on mothers let's go down,
Down in the river to pray.

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the starry crown
Good Lord, show me the way !

O sinners let's go down,
Let's go down, come on down,
O sinners let's go down,
Down in the river to pray.

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the robe and crown
Good Lord, show me the way !

Now go and share your Music Monday with Shawntele at Saved by Grace.

Love the song. And happy belated birthday! I hope you are still celebrating because when you are in your thirties, the party should last at least a week! I'm turning 38 in October...final laps before the big 4-0. Thinking I'd better re-invent myself now or just give up.
