Music Monday - Peace on Earth

Peace:

1. The absence of war or other hostilities.
2. An agreement or a treaty to end hostilities.
3. Freedom from quarrels and disagreement; harmonious relations: roommates living in peace with each other.
4. Public security and order: was arrested for disturbing the peace.
5. Inner contentment; serenity: peace of mind.

As you can see, there are many definitions of peace.   When people think of Peace, some think about freedom from war and hostilities.  Some think about reconciliation and hope.  Some think about things that keep us secure and safe in our daily lives.  Others think of the peace that we can feel and be.

Many people look for it in all the wrong places.  They look for it in external things.  They seek it through meditation and false Gods.  They seek it through the Courts and the Law.  They look to it through military actions.  Where many cease to look for it is through is the only one who can give it.

This week as we think of Peace, we can focus on Jesus who was born to bring us Peace.  Peace from wars, reconciliation with God, between ourselves and others; the Peace that we take for granted for living in our society and the Peace that passes all understanding that fills our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Phillipians 4:7) - the Peace that only He can give us.

I'm sharing today the Casting Crowns version of I Heard the Bells.  This song was originally written by Henry W. Longfellow.   He wrote the poem after losing his wife to a unfortunate accident and losing his son in the American Civil War.  He was filled with despair and hopelessness, however, still He looked to God for peace.  The place that we should all look to.

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Mark Hall, Dale, Bernie Herms

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play
And mild and sweet their songs repeat
Of peace on earth good will to men

And the bells are ringing
Like a choir they're singing
In my heart I hear them
Peace on earth, good will to men

And in despair I bowed my head
There is no peace on earth I said
For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men

But the bells are ringing
Like a choir singing
Does anybody hear them?
Peace on earth, good will to men

Then rang the bells more loud and deep
God is not dead, nor doth He sleep
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men

Then ringing singing on its way

The world revolved from night to day
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men

And the bells they're ringing
Like a choir they're singing
And with our hearts we'll hear them
Peace on earth, good will to men

Do you hear the bells they're ringing?
The life the angels singing
Open up your heart and hear them
Peace on earth, good will to men

Peace on earth, Peace on earth
Peace on earth, Good will to men

Music Monday - Hallelujah!

This past month, I've been pretty busy getting ready for our Church's Annual Christmas Banquet.  I have to admit that I haven't been around the blogosphere these last two weeks because I've been busy with that, general life or being sick.  In fact I haven't felt very joyful lately.  Usually I'm getting excited about Christmas gifts and Christmas cookies and Christmas....  This year, I've felt almost apathtic about Christmas.  It's coming and part of me is panicing about being ready and part of me just wish it would be over.  That's the consumerism part.

This week I'm going to rest and start to focus "Christ"mas.  The reason for Christmas.  The reason that we should be filled with joy.  Yesterday, I shared a verse with you that talks about joy.
When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. Matthew 2:10 (NIV)
This verse is reflecting on the Magi.  After they left Herod's palace, they followed to where the star was leading them.  When they came to the place the star was they were filled with joy.  I love the way the New King James Version expresses it "they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy."  Not that they were filled with joy, but that they rejoiced in it.  I can well imagine this joy.  Just think of it in terms of winning the biggest game of your life and the joy that brings.  Now multiply that feeling.  You can't stop jumping up and down.  You can't stop screaming.  You're just so excited and want everyone to know it.  JOY!  Pure joy.

Nothing describes this more musically than Handel's Hallelujah Chorus.  The joy you feel when you hear it is amazing.  In fact there is the story of George II being so moved at hearing the chorus that he stood up.  Which of course being the King, required everyone in attendance to stand.  This is traditionally the explanation as to why you stand when you hear this.  I just think that the music is so moving and so expressive of the joy that we feel towards our Saviour that you have to stand and sing along.

I've shared the version that has been going viral through the internet the last two weeks.  A choral group sang this "flash mob" style at a food court in a mall in Ontario.  I love looking at the people's faces as they try to figure out what is going on.  Isn't this true about non-believers and believers?

|: Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! :|
|: For the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! :|
For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
|: Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! :|
The kingdom of this world
Is become the kingdom of our Lord,
And of His Christ, and of His Christ;
And He shall reign for ever and ever,
For ever and ever, forever and ever,
King of kings, and Lord of lords,
|: King of kings, and Lord of lords, :|
And Lord of lords,
And He shall reign,
And He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings, forever and ever,
And Lord of lords,
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
And He shall reign forever and ever,
|: King of kings! and Lord of lords! :|
And He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings! and Lord of lords!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Music Monday - Amazing Love

This week we are looking at love.  Not the passionate love  (Eros) of Valentines Day (which may or may not be a "Hallmark" holiday).  We are not going to be looking at Philia or friendship/brotherly love.  Although this is the type of love I have for all of you.  We are not going to be looking at love of family or our parents (Storge).  However, this is almost the type of love that Christmas represents.   We are going to be looking at Agape.  The love that God has for each of us.  The charitable, selfless, alturistic, unconditional kind of love.  The true love that only God has as He is perfect.

He doesn't have any motives for loving us, He loves each of us just because.  One of my favourite lines in a movies is "No, I like you very much. Just as you are." (from Bridget Jones' Diary).  Not thinner, smarter, holier, happier, ...., God loves you "Just as you are."  He wouldn't have you any other way.   In fact, God loves us just the way we are so much that He sacrificed His one and only Son on our behalf to save us.  I know this isn't something we think about during the Christmas season, but think, that little baby in the manger died for each of us.  That is the ultimate sacrificial love that only God can give.  This kind of love amazes me.

I know I've shared this song on my blog before, but I had to share it with you today.  It isn't really isn't a Christmas song, but I think it's totally relevant with the Advent theme of Love.

Whisper in my ear
Tell me one more time
the words i long to hear
that i, i am forgiven

hold me in your arms
draw me next to you
safely by your side
i know i am forgiven

and i will never truly know
just why you love me lord
i am so broken and so desperate
still you love me more
lord, i love your amazing love

there's a beauty in the way
you cherish and embrace me
in all my brokeness i know
i am forgiven

and i will never truly know
just why you love me lord
i am so broken and so desperate
still you love me more
lord, i love your amazing love

and i lift my hands
in worship at your throne
and i raise my heart
so thankful lord for what you've done

Music Monday - Surrender

Next month I am joining in on CJ Carleton's on line study of "A Fresh Brewed Life" by Nicole Johnson. I know, a study involving coffee. She had me at brewed. If you are looking for a study you should check this one out. CJ is a Canadian Christian author and speaker and has a heart for mentoring young women and encouraging others to become mentors. I did a webinar with her earlier this year about mentoring and enjoyed it thoroughly.

This morning I read the first chapter of "A Fresh Brewed Life"(I'm writing this Sunday night). It was about surrendering everything to God. All our dreams, our hopes, our desires, our hurts, our pain, our.... And not just neat and tidy, but honestly, truthfully and messy. This is something I struggle with. I was not raised as a Christian, but in the world and I still struggle with wanting to have complete control. How can I control my life if I've surrendered it over to someone else.? So, I surrender certain portions of my life over to God and let Him control those areas while I "control" the rest.

I can just hear Dr. Phil asking me "How's that working for you?" I can tell you, it doesn't. Surrendering only part of me leads me away from God in all aspects of my life and into chaos. We are told in Job 22:21 to "submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you. " Submitting/surrendering is to yield oneself to another's authority or power. God tells us when we do this, we will not only be at peace, but that we will prosper. Prosper in our knowledge, love and faith in Him. If I want the full gift that Jesus died on a cross and suffered all the indignities for, then I MUST surrender to Him not tomorrow, but NOW.

If you are struggling with this now, ask God to help you to let go of everything that is keeping you from Him and embrace all that He is waiting to give you if only you would ask Him. I know I am.

I chose the hymn "I Surrender All", not just because of the theme of surrendering, but also, because Nicole Johnson in this chapter encouraged us all to look at hymns and reflect on their words. I love the old hymns and think that we should sing them more.

I Surrender All
J.W. Van Deventer

All to Jesus I surrender;
all to him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust him, in his presence daily live.

Refrain: I surrender all, I surrender all, all to thee, my blessed Savior, I surrender all.

All to Jesus I surrender;
humbly at his feet I bow, worldly pleasures all forsaken;
take me, Jesus, take me now.

(Refrain)

All to Jesus I surrender;
make me, Savior, wholly thine;
fill me with thy love and power;
truly know that thou art mine.

(Refrain)

All to Jesus I surrender;
Lord, I give myself to thee;
fill me with thy love and power;
let thy blessing fall on me.

(Refrain)

All to Jesus I surrender;
now I feel the sacred flame.
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to his name!

(Refrain)

Music Monday - How You Live....

Last Friday on Caffeinated Randomness I finished some sentences. One of the sentences I had to finish was Take My Advice: I answered : Laugh at something everyday. It will lighten your mood. Now don't take me wrong I still think this is great advice.

I know everyone has advice to give us along the way:
  • Don't Go to Sleep Angry
  • LIVE. LAUGH. LOVE
  • The only thing to do with good advice is pass it on. It is never any use to oneself.
However, the best I advice I recently received is through song. How you Live by Point of Grace is a filled with great advice to live by.

Wake up to the sunlight with your windows open
don't hold in your anger or leave things unspoken
wear your red dress, use your good dishes
make a big mess and make lots of wishes
and have what you want but want what you have
and don't spend your life looking back

Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
'cause you won't regret it
Looking back from where you have been
'cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
it's how you live

So go to the ball games and go to the ballet
go see your folks more than just on the holidays
kiss all your children, dance with your wife
tell your husband you love him every night
don't run from the truth, 'cause you can't get away
just face it and you'll be ok

Turn up the music
turn it up loud
take a few chances
let it all out
'cause you won't regret it
looking back from where you have been
'cause it's not who you knew
and it's not what you did
it's how you live

Wherever you are and wherever you've been
now is the time to begin

So give to the needy and pray for the grieving
even when you don't think that you can
'cause all that you do is about to come back to you
so think of your fellow man
make peace with God, make peace with yourself
'cause in the end, there's nobody else

Turn up the music
turn it up loud
take a few chances
let it all out
'cause you won't regret it
looking back from where you have been
'cause it's not who you knew
and it's not what you did
it's how you live

Music Monday - I'm Back Home!

I'm back.....ok, to be honest, I've been home for two weeks now, however, I've been catching up on chores, with RL friends, and all the other things that happen in the summer after you get home from vacation. It seems like for the last two weeks I've had something to do everyday. I've even double booked myself on occasion.

I have to admit to you all that I haven't really been on the computer lately. Not that I'm giving it up. I enjoy the computer. I just haven't had the time. So, to be honest, I haven't really read anybodies blogs for about a month now. I only just by perchance quickly read She Sparkles one day on vacation, to find out that I won an amazing Crock Pot book (Thank you Cindy!). I'm hoping to back track on everyone's blog within the next week to see what you have all been up to. Hopefully you have all had an amazing summer and that everyone is in good health. I'll be blogging in the next couple of days about my vacation to let you know how mine went.

I choose "This is Home" by Switchfoot this week, not only because I'm enjoying being Home, but it reminds me of where I've been and where I am now. While on holidays, I visited with my family. None of which know God or even acknowledge Him. I realized while I was there that was where I could be, not should be. Now, I'm where I should be. He lead me Home and to my new family. I rejoice in this. I'm Home!

This is Home by Switchfoot

I've got my memories
They're always inside of me
But I can't go back
Back to how it was
I believe it now
I've seen too much
But I can't go back
Back to how it was
Created for a place I've never known

[Chorus]
This is Home
Now I'm finally where I belong
Where I belong
Yeah, this is home
I've been searching for a place of my own
Now I've found it,
Yeah this is home
Yeah, this is home

Belief over misery
I've seen the enemy
And I won't go back
Back to how it was
And I've got my heart set on what happens next
I've got my eyes wide and it's not over yet
We are miracles
And we're not alone

[Chorus]

And now after all my searching
After all my questions
I'm gonna call it home
I've got a brand new mindset
I can finally see the sunset
I'm gonna call it home

[Chorus]

Now I know, Yeah this is home
I've come too far
No, I won't go back
This is home

Music Monday-JOY

So this Music Monday I'm spending the day with the Evil Twin. We co-decided that we wanted a happy song to celebrate our getting together after two years. We decided on Trading Our Sorrows.

Debbie wanted to use the song because her church is doing a sermon series called "Choice to Rejoice" and immediately thought of this song. I wanted to do this song because it is a feel good song and you can't help but to dance and sing along with it when you hear it (do I sound like Dick Clark now?).

For those struggling with issues, Joy is a Choice. We can choose to wallow in our circumstances or we can rejoice in what God has done and is doing for us in our trials and tribulations. Know that you are not alone. He is carrying you. Though you think you can't rejoice now, know that you can. By praising God, He will fill you with HIS JOY!

I'm trading my sorrow
I'm trading my shame
I'm laying it down for the joy of the Lord

I'm trading my sickness
I'm trading my pain
I'm laying it down for the joy of the Lord

Chorus:
And we say yes Lord yes Lord yes yes Lord
Yes Lord yes Lord yes yes Lord
Yes Lord yes Lord yes yes Lord Amen

I'm pressed but not crushed persecuted not abandoned
Struck down but not destroyed
I'm blessed beyond the curse for his promise will endure
And his joy's gonna be my strength

Though the sorrow may last for the night
His joy comes with the morning

Music Monday - I Love Your Amazing Love

In my prayer journal there is a section for confession. I daily lay before the Lord my transgressions. When I write these down there is a sense of letting God know that I acknowledge what I've done and what I need to work on. However, reviewing my daily entries it looks like I fall to the same sins every day - gossip, judging, anger, frustration.... Am I truly repentant or just that rebellious? Am I truly walking the walk or am I just talking a good talk.? Is the Holy Spirit truly living in me and do I reflect this?

I'm reading Francis Chan's new book the Forgotten God about the Holy Spirit. One of the things that has hit me while reading this book is that I truly am able to "grieve the Holy Spirit" (Ephesians 4:30 NIV). I never really thought about this - that my actions can make the Father sad enough to grieve. I love how the Message states this (parenthesis is mine):
Don't grieve God. Don't break his heart. His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for himself. Don't take such a gift for granted.
I'm continually working on these things, but thankfully I am not working alone. The song I have chosen this week reflects a lot of my questions about my walk and my brokenness. That what it all comes down to is not about what I do, but what He did, He does and He will do in my life. Thank you Father for your Amazing Love.
" and I will never truly know why you love me Lord. I am so Broken and so desperate still you love me lord." Kees Kraayenoord

Whisper in my ear

and i will never truly know

Music Monday - Happy Father's Day

From the first time a father aches to take his daughter's infant hand, she reaches up and takes his heart. She never returns it. He is her protector, her provider. Her knight. Her hero. In turn she is his lamb. his angel on loan. His beauty of beauties. Max Lucado: And the Angels Were Silent
This is the verse that appeared in my Max Lucado perpetual calendar yesterday. When reading it, I immediately knew what he was talking about. My husband and daughter have a very special relationship. She is his true Princess and has been since the minute she was born.

Over the years it has been a joy to see them both - from her toddling after him to her biking ahead of him with her training wheels. Some of my favourite memories are of her sitting on his lap watching tv together.

The song I chose this week is a song Billy Joel wrote for his daughter, Alexa, Lullyebye (Goodnight, My Angel. Whenever I hear this song I think of my daughter and her daddy and the love that they share.

Goodnight, my angel
Time to close your eyes
And save these questions for another day
I think I know what you've been asking me
I think you know what I've been trying to say
I promised I would never leave you
And you should always know
Wherever you may go
No matter where you are
I never will be far away

Goodnight, my angel
Now it's time to sleep
And still so many things I want to say
Remember all the songs you sang for me
When we went sailing on an emerald bay
And like a boat out on the ocean
I'm rocking you to sleep
The water's dark and deep
Inside this ancient heart
You'll always be a part of me

Lu-lu-lu-lu-lu-lu
lu-lu-lu-lu-lu-lu-lu-lu-lu

Goodnight, my angel
Now it's time to dream
And dream how wonderful your life will be
Someday your child may cry
And if you sing this lullabye
Then in your heart
There will always be a part of me

Someday we'll all be gone
But lullabyes go on and on...
They never die
That's how you
And I
Will be

Music Monday - It's All About the Princess

This week it's all about the princess.

She has ruled this roust since birth. She is Daddy's princess and Mama's little girl. She is a kindhearted little girl who is quick to make friends and loves to include new children in her play. She is a great help with her brothers and enjoys playing with both of them (of course, its her game or else). She prefers playing with her dolls to listening to Hannah Montana. She thinks Hip Hop is her Jungle Book cd. She loves to read. Trying not to sound like an overly proud mama, she is one of the top readers in her class and is already reading at a grade 2 level.

She is also very funny. Some of my favourite comments have come from her. Her teacher tells me all the time that Nicole makes her laugh everyday. She is a joy to all around her.

Above all she has a heart for God. She knows where he lives ("in the sky mommy, above the airplanes" (2 year old quote)). She is honestly saddened when she hears there are members of our family that do not have Jesus in their hearts.

When trying to pick her song for her baptism, I had great plans on choosing a praise favourite of mine. I can't even remember which one. My husband thought that a traditional hymn would be better. He was so right. I went through our church hymnal trying to figure out which one would be appropriate. However, it was through one of my worship cds that we were able to chose. It was a new spin on Blessed Assurance. When hearing the words I knew that I wanted her to always be assured that God was with her and would never leave her. Having been raised as a non-Christian this is something I still struggle with.

My hope is that she will always praise her Saviour and this is her song......

Blessed Assurance

(1) Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!

O what a foretaste of glory divine!

Heir of salvation, purchase of God,

Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Chorus: This is my story, this is my song,

Praising my Savior all the day long;

This is my story, this is my song,

Praising my Savior all the day long.

(2) Perfect submission, perfect delight,

Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;

Angels descending bring from above,

Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

(3)Perfect submission, all is at rest,

I in my Savior am happy and blest;

Watching and waiting, looking above,

Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Music Monday - Down to the River to Pray

Every week, I get the privilege to share with you the music that moves me. Often the music that I choose has a story or a message that God has given me. However, this week I'm posting this song just because I like it.

I had never heard this song until I saw O Brother Where Art Thou. It was an amazing scene where the congregation go literally "down to the river" for baptism. This version is by the King Singers. I really enjoy listening to them.

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the starry crown
Good Lord, show me the way !

O sisters let's go down,
Let's go down, come on down,
O sisters let's go down,
Down in the river to pray.

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the robe and crown
Good Lord, show me the way !

O brothers let's go down,
Let's go down, come on down,
Come on brothers let's go down,
Down in the river to pray.

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the starry crown
Good Lord, show me the way !

O fathers let's go down,
Let's go down, come on down,
O fathers let's go down,
Down in the river to pray.

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the robe and crown
Good Lord, show me the way !

O mothers let's go down,
Let's go down, don't you want to go down,
Come on mothers let's go down,
Down in the river to pray.

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the starry crown
Good Lord, show me the way !

O sinners let's go down,
Let's go down, come on down,
O sinners let's go down,
Down in the river to pray.

As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good old way
And who shall wear the robe and crown
Good Lord, show me the way !

Music Monday's - Leroy

This week is my husband's and mine birthday's. We are 367 days apart.

I blogged last summer about our meeting and wedding. Leroy and I will celebrate our 10 year anniversary this November, hence why he is my Y2K guy. I know some of you may wonder why there are no pictures of Leroy on my blog. It's not that I don't want any, it's just that he is a very shy guy. He is my complete opposite. He is, as my aunt once called him, my Rock. He keeps me grounded.

After 10 years of marriage, Leroy continues to surprise me. He loves ACDC, Neil Young, TransSiberian Orchestra, but also groups like the King's Singers. I love his ability to appreciate music in all forms. He has increased my music appreciation and I thought I was already well rounded. I love that he plays all forms of music around the children so that they can appreciate music in all its forms. My daughter can be heard singing along to a few of our cds now. (TSO's Beethoven is one of her particular favourites). Thomas has loved Neil Young since he was a baby and Sam just likes anything with a good percussion (I'm praying he won't be a future drummer, but it looks that way).

Spem in Alium is Leroy's favourite song by the King Singers. I'm listening to it as I write. It is traditionally sung by 8 choirs. These men did it between the 6 of them. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do and that you reflect on the words - I have never put my hope in any other but you.

Spem in alium nunquam habui praeter in te
Deus Israel
qui irasceris
et propitius eris
et omnia peccata hominum in tribulatione dimittis
Domine Deus
Creator coeli et terrae
respice humilitatem nostram

(English Translation)
I have never put my hope in any other but in you,
O God of Israel
who can show both anger
and graciousness,
and who absolves all the sins of suffering man
Lord God,
Creator of Heaven and Earth
be mindful of our lowliness

Music Monday - Held

also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us (Romans 5:3-5 NIV)
I have heard these words many times since becoming a Christian. Two years ago they took real meaning for me.

I mentioned in my post at Sam's Birthday that just before I became pregnant with Sam, I had a miscarriage. I found out two years ago, yesterday that the baby I thought I carried had not gone past 8 weeks.

Two years ago, my hubby and I returned from our fun family vacation. My friend, Jennifer, came over and told us she was pregnant. I was laughing my head off because we had both declared months earlier that we were both D-O-N-E! Two was enough. We both had a girl and boy. After she told us, my hubby asked if I wanted another one. I thought he was crazy, but the more I thought about it and prayed about it, the more I knew that God was leading me to have another child. In fact, someone once told me I was going to have a girl and two boys.

We got pregnant pretty soon after trying. The first part of my pregnancy was normal to my other pregnancies - constant morning sickness. However, this one felt a bit different. I started spotting almost immediately. At first I thought it was because I did too much physical activities, as we were coaching our daughters under 6 soccer team. I went to the doctors and had an ultrasound. It appeared that our dates were a little different than what the ultrasound showed. My doctor said just to take it easy, so I did. I continued to spot on and off for a few weeks.

Finally the day of my ultrasound occurred. My husband decided to stay home with the kids so I went in alone. During the ultrasound the technician was pretty quiet. I knew something was wrong when she said she would get the doctor. I prayed that God would be near to me. I was told the news no mother should have to hear. That her child had not made it. I was devastated. I called my husband and told him.

When I got home, I literally walked to our room and lost it for a few hours. I'm sure the kids were wondering what was going on? There were many questions I had, why us? Why now? What had I done? Was it my lack of faith? Was I not following Christ enough? Was this punishment? I was angry!

I remember going to bed that evening and telling God how I felt. That this was unfair. That I didn't deserve this. That my family didn't deserve this. Then He led me to the verse above. He was there with me. I didn't deserve this. But He would do great things in me through this. He would be there for all the moments I wouldn't see. He would refine me through this.

He gave my husband and I the strength to tell my daughter that she wouldn't be having a sibling. She was upset, as was expected. But she knew she would see the baby in heaven. That Jesus had our baby and was taking care of him or her for us. That we would still get our baby, just not in our time. That we would be a complete family in heaven. Is there any better Father than God, who I could trust my child to other than our family.

When I first heard Held. The words crept into my soul. There are few times when I sing along that I do not cry. It expresses everything I felt about that time and this anniversary. I may not get to see my child grow up. There will be no birthday's to celebrate. No getting excited about first steps, first tooth, first dance. But God is there holding me. If you have gone through a miscarriage and question God in it, know that He is there holding you. If you are going through any struggle and don't think you'll make it. Know that you are held by the Father that created you and that will do great things in you.

Two months is too little
They let him go
They had no sudden healing
To think that providence
Would take a child from his mother
While she prays, is appalling
Who told us we'd be rescued
What has changed and
Why should we be saved from nightmares
We're asking why this happens to us
Who have died to live, it's unfair

[Chorus]
This is what it means to be held
How it feels, when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive
This is what it is to be loved and to know
That the promise was when everything fell
We'd be held

This hand is bitterness
We want to taste it and
Let the hatred numb our sorrows
The wise hand opens slowly
To lilies of the valley and tomorrow

[Chorus]
This is what it means to be held
How it feels, when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive
This is what it is to be loved and to know
That the promise was when everything fell
We'd be held

[Bridge]
If hope is born of suffering
If this is only the beginning
Can we not wait, for one hour
Watching for our savior

[Chorus]
This is what it means to be held
How it feels, when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive
This is what it is to be loved and to know
That the promise was when everything fell
We'd be held
We'd be held

This is what it is to be loved and to know
That the promise was when everything fell
We'd be held

This is what it means to be held.....

Music Monday - Moms

Ok, so I know that tomorrow is Monday. I couldn't resist pre-posting this to give everyone a Mother's Day gift.

The first time I heard this song, my heart leaped (literally). I was feeling pretty down. Washing the floors for the millionth time that week. Wondering, what was I doing? Feeling like a dirty dish rag in the sink. Would the kids just be quiet for 5 minutes? The baby was just little and still waking up twice at night. My DD was having melt downs and Thomas, well he was just his usually obstinate, stubborn self. I started to day dream. What would my life have been like if I had pursued my dream career in law? Then I heard the words.....

They made me put my life into perspective. Yes, things may seem tough, not glamorous and thankless, but they were with a purpose. To raise my children to the best of my ability with the Lord's help. To focus on the little moments, not always on the big picture. To take advantage of: that little smile, when Sam flirts with me; Thomas' kissing contests; and Nicole's enthusiasm of learning that matches my own.

If you're a stay at home mom, the world looks down upon you. They take away your value and your importance. The world only looks at success and what you can "bring to the table." But remember, you're a Mother. You have a purpose. You are important and valuable. You hold God's gift in your hands and mold it with His assistance. You're guiding the future, no matter what the future may hold. YOU ARE CHANGING THE WORLD!

You’re up all night with a screaming baby
You run all day at the speed of life
And every day you feel a little bit less
like the beautiful woman you are

So you fall into bed when you run out of hours
and you wonder if anything worth doing got done
Well maybe you just don’t know
or maybe you’ve forgotten

That you, you are changing the world
one little heartbeat at a time
Making history with every touch and every smile
Oh you, you may not see it now
but I believe that time will tell
how you, you are changing the world
one little heartbeat at a time

With every, “I know you can do it”
and every tear that you kiss away
So many little things that seem to go unnoticed
they’re just like the drops of rain
over time, they become a river

And you, you are changing the world
one little heartbeat at a time
Making history with every touch and every smile
Oh you, you may not see it now
but I believe that time will tell
how you, you are changing the world
one little heartbeat at a time

You’re beautiful, so beautiful
how you’re changing the world, yeah you’re changing the world

You, you are changing the world
one little heartbeat at a time
Making history with every touch and every smile
Oh you, you may not see it now
but I believe that time will tell
how you, you are changing the world
I believe that you, you are changing the world
one little heartbeat at a time

Music Monday - Change

There are changes going on around here. Not just with the blog, but with my life and how I'm living it. I continue to struggle with things that I've been struggling with for along time, but I'm working on letting them go through Christ who saves me.

In strict logic, then, nothing happened to the meat when it was offered up to an idol. It's just like any other meat. I know that, and you know that. But knowing isn't everything. If it becomes everything, some people end up as know-it-alls who treat others as know-nothings. Real knowledge isn't that insensitive. We need to be sensitive to the fact that we're not all at the same level of understanding in this. Some of you have spent your entire lives eating "idol meat," and are sure that there's something bad in the meat that then becomes something bad inside of you. An imagination and conscience shaped under those conditions isn't going to change overnight. (1 Corinthians 8:6-8 Msg)
Like the verse states, I've been eating "idol meat" for along time. There are times when I'm praying regularly and studying regularly that I feel the change should be there. RIGHT THERE at that time. I struggle when I look in my prayer journal, and the confessions that I had 2 years ago are the same things that I continue to struggle with. But there is change. Just to acknowledge that some of the things in my life have been unhealthy is a HUGE change. If you are struggling with God's timing, as sometimes I do, just know that it doesn't happen over night. I'm a testimony to this. You may not see the changes going on, but God knows that changes are happening. In fact, He's cheering you on.

We can trust in God to help us in whatever "idol" we're facing because He NEVER changes. He is always there for us. Always willing to pick us up when we fall on our faces (AMEN!). Always willing to forgive us when we do wrong. Always there to hold us when you think you can't go on another day the way you are.
Jesus doesn't change—yesterday, today, tomorrow, he's always totally himself (Hebrews 13:8 Msg)

2 Cor. 5:17, 3:18

Well I got myself a T-shirt that says what I believe
I got letters on my bracelet to serve as my ID
I got the necklace and the key chain
And almost everything a good Christian needs, yeah
I got the little Bible magnets on my refrigerator door
And a welcome mat to bless you
before you walk across my floor
I got a Jesus bumper sticker
And the outline of a fish stuck on my car
And even though this stuff's all well and good, yeah
I cannot help but ask myself ...

What about the change
What about the difference
What about the grace
What about forgiveness
What about a life that's showing
I'm undergoing the change, yeah
I'm undergoing the change

Well I've got this way of thinking that comes so naturally
Where I believe the whole world is revolving around me
And I got this way of living that I
have to die to every single day
'Cause if God's Spirit lives inside of me, yeah
I'm gonna live life differently

I'm gonna have the change
I'm gonna have the difference
I'm gonna have the grace
I'm gonna have forgiveness
I'm gonna live a life that's showing
I'm undergoing the change

What about the change
What about the difference
What about the grace
What about forgiveness
I want to live a life that's showing
I'm undergoing the change

Music Monday - Welcome Home!!!

"I made sure every door stayed locked, every window blocked and still you knocked" Words that have stayed with me since I first heard this song. They still resonate within me, because even after 10 years, sadly they still apply to my relationship with God. I tend to hold Him at arms length and not where He should be, in me.

This last month my Bible Babes and I have been working on Kelly Minter's No Other Gods. We've each had to name our idols or as I like to refer to them as "our little "g" gods." At the same time, I've been reading Get Out of That Pit by Beth Moore. I've had to do some pretty tough reflection about my life and my relationships. It's hit me hard. I finally reconciled myself that my little "g" gods are my closest friendships and that they may be turning into an addiction. Just then, God decided to "slap" me.

I was "innocently" doing my bible study work last week and then I read this:

So if you're serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don't shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that's where the action is. See things from his perspective.

Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real life—even though invisible to spectators—is with Christ in God. He is your life. When Christ (your real life, remember) shows up again on this earth, you'll show up, too—the real you, the glorious you. Meanwhile, be content with obscurity, like Christ.

And that means killing off everything connected with that way of death: sexual promiscuity, impurity, lust, doing whatever you feel like whenever you feel like it, and grabbing whatever attracts your fancy. That's a life shaped by things and feelings instead of by God. It's because of this kind of thing that God is about to explode in anger. It wasn't long ago that you were doing all that stuff and not knowing any better. But you know better now, so make sure it's all gone for good: bad temper, irritability, meanness, profanity, dirty talk. (Colossians 3:1-8)

Have I really been acting like it? NO! Have I been doing what feels good whenever I want? YES! Do I know better? YES! Am I going to start making changes? YES!

Talked about getting slapped. I love God. He is so amazing. He knows what to to tell us and when to tells us. He knows when we're ready to really hear the hard stuff. I'm no longer a "toddler" Christian. I'm now growing up and having to chew on the meat and potatoes.

I welcome Christ into my life today, just like I did 10 years ago. Welcome Home! All Your Own!

Take, me, make me
All You want me to be
That's all I'm asking, all I'm asking

Welcome to this heart of mine
I've buried under prideful vines
Grown to hide the mess I've made
Inside of me
Come decorate, Lord
Open up the creaking door
And walk upon the dusty floor
Scrape away the guilty stains
Until no sin or shame remain
Spread Your love upon the walls
And occupy the empty halls
Until the man I am has faded
No more doors are barricaded

Chorus:
Come inside this heart of mine
It's not my own
Make it home
Come and take this heart and make it
All Your own
Welcome home

Take a seat, pull up a chair
Forgive me for the disrepair
And the souvenirs from floor to ceiling
Gathered on my search for meaning
Every closet's filled with clutter
Messes yet to be discovered
I'm overwhelmed, I understand
I can't make this place all that You can

repeat chorus

I took the space that You placed in me
Redecorated in shades of greed
And I made sure every door stayed locked
Every window blocked, and still You knocked

repeat chorus

Take me, make me
All You want me to be
That's all I'm asking, all I'm asking

Music Monday - Gather at the River

Over the last week there has been tension among two friends I know. Things have been said and things have been done that really shouldn't have. Lines have been crossed and fortifications built.

Friendships are good and from God. He wants us in community with each other. He calls us to be good neighbours to each other. We often refer to it as the Golden Rule.
...that you love your neighbor as well as you do yourself (Luke 10:27b Msg)
The last few days I've been thinking about this. What ramifications it brings to my life? Do I really treat everyone the way I expect to be treated? How do I treat others? I don't always treat people the way I would expect to be treated. I can gossip with the best of them. I can judge others, making myself feel better about myself. Is this really what God calls ME to do? NO!!!! Who am I to judge and who I am I to list someone's wrongs when the plank is still in my eye.

This week I pray that we can all receive forgiveness from the one who gives it. Lets seek out reconciliation with those who we have hurt. Lets do as God calls us to.

But he's already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women. It's quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, And don't take yourself too seriously— take God seriously. (Micah 6:8 Msg)

Sometimes we don't see eye to eye
We don't agree, we don't know why
But Jesus prayed that we'd be one
So for the sake of god's own son
Can we put away our differences
Lay down our pride
I think it's time we start turning the tide

(chorus)
Shall we gather at the river of forgiveness
Come together at the waters of love
Flowing like a fountain from the mercy giver
Shall we gather at the river

We have all made enemies of
The ones we're called by Christ to love
But there's redemption at the riverside
The water's deep, the water's wide
It can wash away our bitterness
The current is strong
I think we've been out in the desert too long

(repeat chorus)

We can wade into the middle
Where the healing waters flow
It only takes a little
To heal a wounded soul
It will only bring us closer
Than we've ever been before
This is just what Jesus was praying for

Music Monday - Second Chances

Last Thursday I was up early with the kids and had already washed my floors (I only did this as Andrea was coming over for coffee). While I waited in the basement for the floors to dry, I turned on the TV and started watching Joyce Meyer.

I really enjoy watching her speak. For those who are not familiar with her, she's a common sense, straight talking Christian. I don't often get a chance to watch her, as I'm usually getting my daughter ready for school and getting breakfast on the table. On that particular episode, Joyce was talking about a few different topics. But the one that really took my breath away is that we don't celebrate our changes. She said that we usually feel pretty down when we mess up or when we realize we aren't where we think we should be in our walk. However, she continued to state that we should celebrate the fact that we changed! That we are no longer who we used to be. The Former Bad Girl in me kept yelling AMEN!!! She backed up her argument with the Isrealites. Every time they did something bad and then turned back to God they celebrated and put up monuments to remember it.

I kept thinking throughout the day that I often get down on myself when I slip in my walk with God or if I don't pray or submit to Him. When I fall into old habits and patterns. But you see, now I know they're bad. Now I know who to lean on. Now I know who loves me no matter what! I didn't know that 10 years ago.

I'm changed! I'm a child of God! I'm co-heir with Christ. GOD LOVES ME! Thank you God for second, third and one thousandth chances.

Lets celebrate all our "second chances" today and everyday!

Singer 1: You're feelin' pretty blue
You didn't do what God requested!
Singer 2: Yeah, I'd be mopin' too, if I was gonna be digested!
Singer 3: This ain't a pretty picture, no
I said, it ain't a pretty sight, no.
Singer 2: You ran from God this morning and you're ...
All: Whale chow tonight!

But hold up!
Hang on!
Singer 2: Not so fast! Your life ain't over yet!
Singer 3: See, we're here to tell you all about ...
Singer 2: the forgiveness that...
All: you... can... get!

Singer 1: You see God's a god of mercy,
Singer 2: God's a god of love.
All: And right now, He's gonna lend a helping hand from up above!

Choir: Praise the Lord!
He's the God of second chances!
You'll be floored how His love your life enhances!
You can be restored from your darkest circumstances!
Our God is a God of second chances!

Singer 1: Ain't it good to know a God who gives a second chance.
Khalil: Why, that's enough to get a smile from Mr. Grumpy-Pants!
Singer 1: So, if you say you're sorry for all the stuff you do
Singer 2: We know that He'll be ready with a second chance for you!

Choir: Praise the Lord!
He's the God of second chances!
You'll be floored how His love your life enhances!
You can be restored from your darkest circumstances!
Our God is a God of second chances!
Choir: Our God is a god ...

If you believe
God's love is true
Then you should know
What you should do!
If you believe
God's love is true
Then you should know
What you should do!

If you believe
God's love is true
Then you should know
What you should do!

If you believe
God's love is true
Then you should know
What you should do!

God gives a second chance!

Second chances!
Second chances!
Praise the Lord!
He's the God of second chances!
You'll be floored when you're restored from your darkest circumstances.
Our God is a God of second chances!
Second chances!
Second chances!
Praise the Lord!
He is the God of second chances!
You'll be floored when you're restored from your darkest circumstances.
Our God is a God of second chances!

If you believe
God's love is true
Then you should know
What you should do!

If you believe
God's love is true
Then you should know
What you should do!

If you believe
God's love is true
Then you should know
What you should do!

Second chances!
Second chances!
Praise the Lord!
He's the God of second chances!
You'll be floored when you're restored from your darkest circumstances.
Our God is a god of second chances!

Music Monday - The Wonderful Cross

This last week I've been spending more deliberate prayer and study time with God. I've been trying to prioritize my life as it is totally out of whack! Phones and friends have become my idols over my God and family. Things that I have submitted to lately have let me down. I wonder why?

This Friday we celebrate Good Friday. Really if you think about what's good about it. Jesus was nailed to a cross brutally and deliberately and made to suffer unimaginable pain. It's heard to think about the pain He would have went through. For anyone who has seen the Passion of the Christ you can visualize what He went through. I cried through out that movie as it was placed before me Jesus' trials during his last day.

In Alpha, Nicky Gubel talks about the cross. In fact, he starts off the study regarding the cross wearing a Gallows around his neck. It too was a source of death. He states that "the Cross lies at the heart of the Christian faith." Jesus died as a sacrifice for OUR SINS! Not His, as He was wholly perfect, but ours. And not just Ours, but MINE. My judging nature, my loud mouth ways, my anger, my unforgiveness....(just to name a few)! He died to make me reconciled with God. He died to make me whole! What freedom. What a Wonderful Cross.

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died
My Richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride

See from His head His hands His feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns compose so rich a crown

Oh the wonderful cross (2x)
Bids me come and die and find
that I may truly live

Oh the wonderful cross (2x)
All who gather here by grace
draw near and bless your name

Were the whole realm of nature mine
That were an off'ring far too small
Love so amazing so divine
Demands my soul, my life, my all

Oh the wonderful cross (2x)
Bids me come and die and find
that I may truly live

Oh the wonderful cross (2x)
All who gather here by grace
draw near and bless your name

Love so amazing, so divine
Demands my soul, my life, my all

and the beauty and the shame
in the glory of His name
Oh the wonderful cross

Oh the wonderful cross (2x)
Bids me come and die and find
that I may truly live

Oh the wonderful cross (2x)
All who gather here by grace
draw near and bless your name

Music Monday - How Many Kings

Two summers, I came across this week's song. It stirred my soul immediately. I have reflected upon it at different times. It has become one of my favourites as it reminds me who is my King and what He has done in my life.

It is easy to take everything in our lives for granted from our families, friends and the world around us. We look at the beauty of things and don't realize the cost that was paid on our behalf and that it started with the birth of a baby. A Father's Gift, A Mother's Sacrifice and a Son's Ultimate Surrender for those who don't deserve it.

How Many Kings - Downhere

Follow the star to a place unexpected
Would you believe, after all we've projected,
A child in a manger?
Lowly and small, the weakest of all
Unlikeliest hero, wrapped in his mother's shawl -
Just a child -
Is this who we've waited for? 'cause...

How many kings step down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
And how many gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that is torn all apart
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?

Bringing our gifts for the newborn Savior
All that we have, whether costly or meek
Because we believe.
Gold for his honor, and frankincense for his pleasure
And myrrh for the cross he will suffer
Do you believe?
Is this who we've waited for?

All for me...
All for you..
