Caffeinated Randomness-I am NOT Superwoman, I just look like her.

I'm sure I have told you this before, but I am an overachiever.  I like to think big and then stress myself out trying to accomplish it.  When I don't accomplish it, I end up eating chocolate icing.  Ok, that was just last night.

I had great plans to write a review of Ashley's new e-book for today's randomness.  But last night I also had great plans to sweep and mop the floors.  Make the kids lunch (today is Middle Man's 1st full day of Kindergarten).  I wanted to make a Texas Sheet Cake so that the kids had a special treat in their lunch or a nice after school snack.  I wanted to make lemonade.  Clean up the kitchen.  Prep my coffee and then maybe go to bed early.

We got Middleman to bed on time and same with the Princess.  It was 8:30 pm.  I had lots of time to do what I wanted to do.  I had to call my mom to see when she was coming Friday night.  While I talked to her, I cleaned up from dinner.  My grandmother had called earlier in the evening so I had to return her call as well.  While talking to her, I made the sheet cake.  I was on a roll.  I was invincible.  I was actually going to pull it all off........famous last words.

I started to prep Middleman's lunch and realized that I needed to get some juice from the bunch Hubby had picked up earlier in the evening and for some reason took the the lid of Middleman's juice box with me.   But on my journey for the juice, I heard the kids music on in their room and the lights on and went to turn them off for the night.  Middleman was still up at 9:30 pm.  I got him re-settled, grabbed the juice and then went back to the kitchen.  Where was the lid?  As you can tell, the lid itself isn't very big so I searched and searched and searched and couldn't find the lid.  Hubby came up and asked what was going on and I told him.  His solution, we'll pick up juice in the morning.  Great solution and probably one I should have listened to (yes, I am admitting that he was right).  But I was obsessed.  I continued looking for at least 15 minutes to no avail.

I got the kids lunches made, but I was exhausted and defeated and still had dishes to load into the dishwasher from the sheet cake.  There it was, the pan I made the icing in.  I grabbed it and the flat metal spatula and sat in front of the tv and turned on mindless tv.  Ok, I turned on the Housewives of Orange County.  I sat there watching their superficial lives and superficial bodies, while one skinny bleached blonde botox woman kept saying how she was into homeopathy.  I shouldn't judge, but I did, and I ate the icing from the pan.

Right there I admitted defeat.  I knew I wasn't going to get the floors done and really they could wait a day.  I wasn't going to get a blog posted and really if I was honest with myself, it could wait.  My hubby asked me why I was making sheet cake at night in the first place, when the kids had cookies.  I didn't really have a good answer.  I just want to be "that mom."  The mom who does little/big things like that for her kids.  I am trying to be superwoman on a very limited energy level.  What the evening really taught me, is that I am an overachiever and need to be realistic about what I am capable of.  I am not superwoman, I am just me.  I need to remember it's really not about the big things that I want it to be, it's about the small things.  The simple things.

Hi, my name is Michelle and I'm an overachiever.  Please link up with your overachiever story randomness today.

PS:  If you are wondering if I ever found the lid, I did just I was going to bed.  It was in the kids room on their toy bin.

Ok, so is it bad if I laughed? Only because I could so see myself in your story(especially the juice lid)and I am so relieved that I'm not the only one! Have a wonderful weekend!

This summer was totally "overachiever" for me. I had fantastic plans of doing lots of fix-it jobs around the house with the aid of my husband. We are far from being done. And now that school has started, bye-bye to renos until next year! Except for some paiting which was supposed to be done two weeks ago! :)

Oh well...

Chocolate icing sounds good right about now! :)

I find myself in a very similar boat quite often! Only with me it's getting lost in a book chowing down on dark chocolate chips.
